German newspaper Der Spiegel has now published correspondence between the two clubs, which show the first offer for Coutinho - of round £72million - was rejected on July 20 with Liverpool adamant the player was "not for sale at any price".
In early August, Barcelona returned with a bid of £90m but Michael Edwards , Liverpool's sporting director, said: "I ask you amicably to stop harassing Coutinho publicly and privately. No amount of money will change our minds."
The Catalan club then had a third bid of £114m rejected towards the end of the transfer window.
The emails back up the Reds' stance on Coutinho, with club owners FSG going public in their view that the midfielder would not be sold at any price.
Der Spiegel, who worked with Football Leaks, also reports that Coutinho would have earned €115m (£101m) over five years.
The 25-year-old's agent was due to receive €10m (£9m) if a transfer fee of €100m was not exceeded.
The emails also show that Liverpool did not ask for £183m for Coutinho in the dying hours of August, as had been claimed by Barcelona.
